About an hour north of Grande Prairie, Highway 2 suddenly plunges into the vast Peace River valley — and delivers one of northern Alberta's most striking views.
The bridge and the valley
The Dunvegan Bridge, Alberta's longest vehicle suspension bridge, crosses the Peace where fur traders, missionaries and First Nations met for centuries. The valley walls glow gold in evening light; the viewpoint on the south rim is a mandatory stop.
Historic Dunvegan
At the river level, Historic Dunvegan Provincial Park preserves the 19th-century mission and trading post buildings, with seasonal interpretive programming and famously productive market gardens nearby. Check Alberta Parks for current site hours.
