The story
In 1942, crews punched 2,400 kilometres of road from Dawson Creek to Alaska in under nine months — one of the great engineering feats of the century. Dawson Creek's Mile Zero post, Alaska Highway House and the NAR Park museum tell the tale well.
The drive
Highway 43 west becomes BC Highway 2 at the border — an easy 130 km cruise through farmland and forest edge. Watch for the kilometre-per-hour switch and BC fuel prices (fill in Alberta).
